The Tpyo Award: Stranglehold’s Bill McMahon, er, Bill McMahen, uh, I mean Bill McMahan, no, um, Bill Mcmahen.  Whatever.

There’s an old joke that I still find amusing.  What word is always spelled wrong?  ‘Wrong’.  Well, in the TDA, there’s a similar situation that isn’t exactly a joke.  What driver’s name is always spelled wrong?  Bill Mcmahen’s.

I personally have a lot of trouble spelling Gerritt “Big Kahuna” Vanderbilt’s name.  Jason Twite can attest to this because he’s had to change it in every column I’ve mentioned Vanderbilt.  Sometimes I leave off a ‘T’ in Gerritt, sometimes I spell with an ‘A’ and sometimes I do both.  However, this pales in comparison to the trials and tribulations that Stranglehold’s Bill “The Hammer” Mcmahen has gone through this year.

When I wrote about Mcmahen grabbing the checkered flag against Orange Crush, I spelled his last name ‘McMahon’.  And that’s the way it went to print.  I saw Mcmahen Fourth Night and he casually mentioned that his name had been spelled wrong.  He told me, “It’s Mcmahen with an ‘E’.”  I felt bad, so I changed it.  But what I didn’t know what that it’s Mcmahen with an ‘E’ and a small ‘M’.  This puts me ahead of the TDA though; they are still spelling his name ‘Mcmahan’.

There are about four different versions of his last name floating around on the teamdemo.com site; the least frequently used is, of course, the correct way.
