The Hit of the Year, Second Runner Up: MEAN GREEN MACHINES’ RYAN DECKER on BAD COMPANY’S KYLE SHEARER
Watching a lot of demolition derbies, I’ve grown somewhat accustomed to seeing cars being pulled off the track with their parts in wildly unusual places. After Mean Green Machines’ Ryan Decker hit Bad Company’s Kyle Shearer in Turn 2 of their Third Night race, Shearer’s car suffered from a problem I’d never seen before (or even thought possible): Shearer could no longer reach his steering wheel in order to drive.
Decker’s hit had snapped Shearer’s steering column and pushed it up to such a degree that Shearer could no longer reach it with his hands while sitting in his driver’s seat. As Shearer noted, “The car was still drivable, I just couldn’t reach the wheel.”
That is an impressive hit.
